How to Cancel a Subscription
By the Super Simple Digital Tools Team · Updated June 2026 · Easy · 15 minutes
Forgotten subscriptions quietly drain money every month. Cancelling is usually simple, but the method depends on where you signed up — and you'll want proof that the charges have actually stopped.
Steps
- Find the source. Check your bank or card statement for the merchant name and whether you were billed via the company directly, an app store, or PayPal.
- Cancel in the right place. App Store/Google Play subscriptions are cancelled in your device's subscription settings — not in the app itself. Others cancel in the account's billing page.
- Follow the flow to the end. Click through every confirmation screen until you see explicit wording that the subscription is cancelled or 'will not renew'.
- Save the confirmation. Screenshot the cancellation and keep the confirmation email as proof in case you're billed again.
- Verify next cycle. Watch your statement on the next billing date to confirm no further charge appears.
Tips
- If a charge slips through after cancelling, contact your bank with your proof and dispute it.
- Review all subscriptions twice a year — most people are paying for at least one they forgot.
